2009 NALCP Annual Conference SEPTEMBER 23-25, 2009Thanks for attending!

Conference Re-Cap:  The 2009 NALCP Annual Conference took place this year from September 23-25th at the Westin Hotel in downtown Portland, OR.  With a total group of 85 NALCP Members and Associate Members along with our guest speakers, we had a great and energetic group of folks who held great discussions and sessions filled to the brim with information relevant to the current licensing world.

This year’s conference theme focused on Back to Basics addressing general licensing issues including local and state compliance, new laws, staff training and emerging trends of interest to the food and beverage industry.  The group was honored to hear from state liquor licensing administrators Jerry Oliver of Arizona, Hobert Rupe of Nebraska (2010 President of NCSLA), Rick Garza of Washington, Linda Ignowski of Oregon, and Steve Ernst of California.  The state administrators spoke about their respective general licensing processes, possible or implemented new polices, and how to better work with their respective staff members when dealing with licensing issues.  Additionally, we heard from the WA and OR Restaurant Associations as well as training and compliance professionals from ID Pro, ServSafe, BARS, TIPS and the National Liquor Law Enforcement Association.  Not to mention or many talented and knowledgeable Associate Members who took the reigns and spoke on topics of interest such as guns on licensed premises, how to justify your licensing and compliance staff in these tough economic times, compliance between wholesalers/manufacturer & licensees, and many other topics which were part of our round table lunch.

It’s not all work at the conference, though.  We “topped” off the second day of the conference with a beer tasting conducted by Rogue Brewery.  In the evenings we were able to enjoy each other’s company at a couple social events.  We enjoyed a seemingly sky-high Meet and Greet at the law firm of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, P.C. where we took in breathtaking views of Portland while enjoying some native Oregon wines and beers.  We also held our 2nd annual restaurant crawl where we were able to enjoy appetizers and drinks at Buffalo Wild Wings, entrées at Rock Bottom Brewery and dessert at P.F. Chang’s China Bistro. As the only organization of licensing professionals nationwide, NALCP currently has 100+ members across the United States representing over 33 companies including off- premise retailers, a facilities management group, numerous hotels, and many of the nation’s best known restaurant chains.

The LONG list of member companies able to join us in Portland were: Apple Gold Group, Apple Grove Restaurants, Applebee’s Services, Inc., BJ’s Restaurants, Inc., Carrols Restaurant Group, Inc., The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated/Grand Lux Café, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., Darden Restaurants, Inc., Dave & Busters, Inc., Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, Inc., Joe’s Crab Shack, Landry’s Restaurants, Logan’s Roadhouse, Inc., P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. and Pei Wei Asian Diner, Inc., Planet Hollywood International, Inc. and subsidiaries, Red Robin International, Inc., Ruth’s Hospitality Group, Inc., Texas Roadhouse Holdings LLC, Walgreen Co., Whole Foods Market and last but certainly not least Rock Bottom Restaurants, Inc.

NALCP’s core mission is to raise awareness of licensing professionals inside the food and beverage industry and to provide an opportunity for its members to network, share their own best practices, and collaborate to improve efficiencies in the areas of licensing and compliance.  This conference was a great example of all these things and we look forward to growing, working with and seeing all of you in 2010.
